Efficient Flue Gas Treatment for Acid Gases and Heavy Metals Removal
LAB designs and delivers advanced dry and semi-dry flue gas treatment systems tailored to meet stringent environmental regulations. With our proprietary SecoLAB ®, BicarLAB ® and VapoLAB ® dry flue gas cleaning technologies, we offer flexible and efficient solutions to remove acid gases (SO₂, HCl, HF), particulate matter, heavy metals, and dioxins from flue gases.
Tailored Emission Control Solutions
Our dry and semi-dry processes are engineered to adapt to your industrial constraints and regulatory requirements. Whether integrated into a Waste-to-Energy facility, a biomass plant, or a sludge incineration, LAB’s systems are designed to ensure optimal efficiency, operational simplicity and long-term reliability.
Dry System
Simplified and Robust Technology for Acid Gas Neutralization
The dry process is based on the injection of solid reagent powder, typically hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate, directly into the flue gas stream inside a reactor, called LAB-Loop ®.

The LAB-Loop ® reactor ensures long residence time between flue gas and reagent, an excellent mixing of reagent particles and the flue gas as well as a perfect injection of recirculated residue. The resulting reaction products, along with fly ash and unreacted reagent, are collected by a downstream bag house filter.

- Simple operation and low maintenance
 - No wastewater production
 - Efficient for low to medium pollutant loads
 - Ideal for installations with limited space or no water access

SecoLAB ® System

Protos
Residue Recirculation with water reactivation
The SecoLAB ® system uses a direct injection of dry powdered reagent (hydrated lime and activated carbon) into the flue gas duct. The acid gases are neutralized through dry reactions, and the resulting particulates are collected by a high-efficiency bag house filter. To get better removal efficiency and less reagent consumption, a high rate of residue is recirculated into the LAB-Loop ® reactor, where it is mixed again with flue gas and can react with acid pollutants. To improve the reaction the residues are getting into contact with a dedicated flow of water into a humidification screw before being transported back into the LAB-Loop ®.

The additional humidity in the residue creates a better reaction with the acid gases and improves efficiency and lime consumption compared to dry residue recirculation.
- Higher removal efficiency for acid gases
 - Lower hydrated lime consumption
 - Use of process water or scrubber bleed

Residue Recirculation with steam reactivation
The VapoLAB ® system uses principially the same equipment and reagent as the SecoLAB ® system. To improve the reaction the residues are getting into contact with a dedicated flow of low-pressure steam injected into a specially designed mixing device, called ActiLAB ® mixer before transporting back into the LAB-Loop ®. The additional advantage is the perfect mixing of steam with residue which gives a more advanced better reaction with the acid gases and improves efficiency and lime consumption compared to SecoLAB ® system. Because of no need of spraying nozzles, the process is nearly maintenance free.

- Highest removal efficiency for acid gases for a dry system
 - Lower hydrated lime consumption
 - Use of low pressure steam

BicarLAB ® System

Harlingen, Netherlands
Dry flue gas cleaning system using Na-bicarbonate as reagent
The BicarLAB ® system uses Na-bicarbonate as reagent. For this reagent flue gas temperature shall be higher (> 160°C) than dry processes with lime. In a first step the injected fine powdered Bicarbonate (pre-grinded reagent or grinded by mills) reacts in the hot flue gas to carbonate, which reacts then with acid pollutants to potassium residue. Principally the same equipment is used as the SecoLAB ® system. To improve the reaction the residues may be recirculated on a dry form. BicarLAB ® ensure a perfect distribution in the flue gas and a long residence time together with the function of bag house filter to achieve a very low reagent consumption. BicarLAB ® is used as a stand alone system or in combination with a DeNOx SCR and completed by a SecoLAB ® system.

- Very low emission for acid pollutants
 - Applicated at higher flue gas temperature
 - Easy transport and storage of residue

Semi-Dry System

Gloucester, United Kingdom
Combining Reactivity and optimized flue gas conditions for Enhanced Performance
The semi-dry process combines injecting water or a bleed from scrubbing to cool down flue gases to best operating temperature of dry system using lime as reagent. The conditioning tower enables an optimized flue gas temperature control and a wastewater free flue gas cleaning solution. In combination with the VapoLAB ® or SecoLAB ® using hydrated lime as reagent, the semi-dry system gives the best conditions for a high and controlled pollutants removal.
